Uncluttered Comments

I've noticed a new trend in the comment arena.  People are emailing responses to the comments on their blogs instead of answering IN the comment section.  I like the intimacy of it.

Christine taught me how. Go under settings to get comments emailed to you.  When the comments arrive in your box, simply reply your answer.

Easy peasy!

I like the idea of commenting back and not cluttering the comment box. But being my snoopy self, I like to read the answers other people write on their blogs so I'm a little torn about switching to the reply by email.

What about you?  Which do you prefer?

  1. Either works for me, but I prefer to answer in the comments. It feels more like a conversation is going on that way, and everyone sort of connects there.

  2. I'm torn. I continue to answer in my comment section because I like to think of it as dialogue, sort of a salon for discussion. But I do like connecting directly to so many blogging friends when they email me. I don't know if I will switch or try to do both!

  3. I like an ongoing thread on the actual post. But I also like getting surprise little emails, they do feel more personal. Sometimes I don't even care if the person responds to my comment at all because sometimes there's nothing to respond to.

Perhaps copy and paste, do both. Oooo...that sounds exhausting.

I will say that on my own blog I find it much more time efficient to post in the thread, not with individual emails. I just don't have the extra time or creative energy to individualize like that. Eh, so sue me. I'm lazy. :)

(Good beans, this comment was long.)

  4. Joanne, I know, I like seeing the discussion.
    Tricia, I know!
Valerie, (I like your long comment) I see your point about it being faster.

  5. I prefer to email my comment replies. I can be more personal that way and sometimes a dialogue can grow from it. The ones who don't put their email address on their profiles, I do post in the thread for them.

  6. I've been emailing my responses for a while, now. While it is intereting to look at the feedback within the comment section, I don't think most people do. And, once you get lots of comments, it's just too much. Plus, emailing a quick response is better time management and I feel like we really connected. Also, I don't know if people stop back to read the response in the comment section. Do what feels right. Some people have a non-response so you can't email them. Another way is to go to their blog and leave a comment. I enjoy your words and feedback in whatever manner you choose.

  7. I'm not terribly good at doing either, but I do try to respond via email if someone has a question or something. I've actually had some great friendships start with emailing responses to comments and then chatting back and forth through email. It is a lot more personal.

I do think it's fun to see some back and forth in the comment section too though.

  8. I like the comments section. I like to look up people with funny or nice comments and check out their blogs. Maybe they're new friends?

  9. Glad I could help. I prefer to email just because I don't have a whole lot of time. Emailing my responses is quicker and more personal. :)

  10. I feel the same. It's awful when you go somewhere new and forget to subscribe to comments. It makes me wonder how many unfinished conversations I've had oops!
    Thanks for the info.

  11. I like to have the discussion going on in the comment section. However e-mail does have its benefits, too. Especially for the folks who get lots and lots of comments (I wouldn't know). As far as commenting goes, it's easier to READ everyone else's comments if you subscribe by e-mail. Especially if you DO want to see what everyone else is saying. In that case, I would just click back to the original post to leave another comment in the thread.

  12. I use the comment section, but must admit sometimes miss some comments - so maybe emails are a bit more clever.

  13. Love hearing your thoughts on this! I think I'm still stuck between the two. I seem to do what's most convenient at the moment.
