Who Are You, Grief?

Are you a monster,
Grief?  I've felt your piercing pain
And wept at your gifts.

I am deep sorrow;
Unraveling your secrets.
My darkness reveals.

Why are you pressing
Into the depths of my heart?
I long for release.

The only way out
Is a road paved with anguish--
You must confront me.

  1. Oh isn't that the truth. Some emotions must be fully experienced in order to move past them. And even then, it seems a small part of them becomes a part of us too.

  3. Painful, powerful, and potent, all at the same time. Peace to be had, possibly yet for me that journey's path is prolonged. Thank you for your words. Evoked special emotion regarding grief with this upcoming Mother's Day for me. Missing Mom. Feeling her prescence as well. Thanks, again. Lovely!

  5. So great!!! :o) I love writing haikus. I've been writing haikus with the 5-7-5 syllable pattern for ages, and then I sent them into a magazine with a Japanese editor who suggested I cut down the syllables. She said that, she thinks the 5-7-5 pattern is way too long for English Haikus. If you're interested, I can send you the tips she sent me! They were really helpful. PS: this isn't a criticism of your poems AT ALL. I LOVE them. I just thought you might like the info :o)
