Wing Tip #9 - Sailing Single-Handed Around the World

Jackee at Winded Words sent me a book called Walking on Alligators by Susan Shaughnessy and it's been a wealth of encouragement. (Thank you, Jackee!)  This quote gripped me this morning:

"Success is a finished book, a stack of pages each of which is filled with words.  If you reach that point, you have won a victory over yourself no less impressive than sailing single-handed around the world." - Tom Clancy

Isn't that beautiful? Sniff.

What is success to you?

Getting off to write now...

  1. Love it! Sometimes it does feel like being alone against the storm or that it's such a loooong way to go. But getting there? Bring out the champagne.

  2. That's a great quote! Success is impacting others in a positive way, even when you aren't consciously trying to - you made my day. Thank you, Catherine. :-)

  3. Great quote! How encouraging!

I'm so behind--just catching up on comments from the weekend. My backyard IS magical! I can't wait until we get it totally cleaned up. :) All the joys of homeownership.

Are you starting a new blog? The Little Writer that Could?

  4. Ooo, a finished manuscript does feel like a huge success. I'm hoping having 2 finished manuscripts feels even better.

    Shannon, so glad! hee-hee :)
SarahAnn, I have a nephew who's into writing and I've been toying with writing a blog for young writers. But I haven't found the time to get it going yet. :(
Natalie, I would imagine it does. But at this point, I can only imagine. ;)

  6. Success to me, if I'm being real, is perfection....I feel like a failure often due to that fact.

  8. I agree with the quote above! I think Tom said it best! Success is when I've finished a first draft, print out all the pages and witness the work I just put into the pages, it's beautiful.
