One, my husband was born on it.
Two, he proposed on it.
Wanna hear how?
He got his friends to pretend they were throwing him a surprise party and needed my help (sneaky). They were taking him out and would leave him blindfolded at the University's empty auditorium. I was supposed to get him to the party.
That night I got the call and hurried to meet him. We laughed about his crazy friends then I presented him with a birthday gift. He asked if I'd go up onstage with him, just the two of us. I thought it a little odd but it was his birthday. When we reached the center of the stage, he got down on one knee. I was completely taken off guard. I was the one surprising HIM, what was he doing on his knee? His tender words sank into my heart and brought out tears; I choked out a yes.
We chatted for awhile until I remembered and explained he had a surprise party waiting. He laughed and said he'd invented it to distract me--there wasn't really a party. Relieved of that, I wanted to share our engagement with my twin sister who was across campus. He agreed with a twinkle in his eye. When we opened the door to leave the auditorium, there was a crowd of people waiting: my sister, my parents, my grandparents, his parents, and a slew of friends who erupted into cheers. The surprise was once again on me.
Needless to say, I have a romantic (and unpredictable) husband. I'm thankful for the stories he's given me to cherish and the one story we continue to write together. Happy Birthday, Babe!
