NEW Series: *Reduce Closet Clutter* Tip #3

The best part of an ice cream sundae is the topping and the best part of an outfit is the accessories. I have an obsession with belts and scarves. I'm a visual person so having them out where I can see them is key. Some people can remember what they have or store them in drawers where they're accessible; but I need the visual reminder. So I came up with a solution that worked in my closet.

I hammered in three nails of different sizes to handle the large buckled belts, middle-sized buckles and small buckles. Being able to see them at a glance helps me know which one will go with each outfit best. I hang my scarves in a hanger with holes. I love being able to pull this out and glance through them.

Since accessories are small, it's easy to keep too many even when they are worn and out-of-date.

Tip #3: Set a limit and organize your accessories so you can view them in one motion (in a drawer, on a nail, in a bucket). This takes much less time than having to move things aside to get to them. Set a limit to the amount you'll keep and when you purchase a new one (scarf, purse, necklace) get rid of one. This will keep your accessories fresh, but manageable.

Let's Chat: What is your must-have accessory? Do you keep a certain number or are you unsure of how many you own? How do you store them?

  1. I love scarves too. I store mine in a drawer, and on a scarf/tie rack. I like seeing the colors on the rack, it almost looks like a piece of art.

  3. My favorite is jewelry, especially my lia sophia pieces that are versatile. I love wearing the same piece in different ways. I guess that's the appeal to the little red dress. It's versatile too!

    1. Maybe we need see-through drawers for our dressers. ;)

  5. Absolutely cannot go out without a necklace - I'm naked otherwise. It's really the only jewelry I ever wear. I love scarves in winter. I hang all my necklaces on a coat hanger and keep them inside my cupboard - works really well and like your belts it helps to see them all hanging up.

  7. I love your scarf hanger idea! I don't know why I never thought of hanging my scarves, but it's exactly the solution I've been looking for. Thanks!

    1. My husband was giving this away and I snagged it. I think it'd held his ties. There may be other kinds of hangers out there just for scarves but this one worked well for me.

  8. JEWELRY! To me, jewelry makes the outfit. I love big necklaces, fun bracelets and earrings, and ring bling. :-)

    1. You sound like my sister (heartsjoy above)! I love necklaces and earrings, but I don't wear bracelets as often; rings on occasion.
