Coral jeans are my favorite! They add a flair of color and yet act as a neutral. They're perfect for Fall but also fun for Spring when everything is thawing and flowers start to bloom. Coral jeans are versatile and playful all rolled into one.
Do you have a favorite pair of colored jeans or do you prefer neutrals?
I am in love with this outfit! From the teal top, velvet pants, Clarks flats, cable scarf, grandpa sweater and fleece coat ~ I would wear it ALL. Simplicity, comfort, and a tiny dose of spunk with those cat eyeglasses. I could easily slip into this outfit and feel complete. A minimalist look with fun textures, splash of color and a dose of playfulness? Yes, PLEASE!

Do you like my hair short? Ha, no I didn't cut it, just fastened the bottom layer in a ponytail holder and tucked it under with bobby pins so it'd look short for the day. May have to do a tutorial on that. It was one of those times when I was tempted to chop it, but pretending it was this length helped me resist. Plus, it's nice not to seem too twins-y when we go out, keeps stares to a minimum.
We took these photos when I was visiting her a few weeks ago. She was such a good sport about the photo shoot. Even though she's not a blogger right now, she's preciously supportive of me having one. :D I still have some fun items to share with you that we worked on together, but they're not ready yet.
Cynthia's bringing Mom to town today so we can have a girl's day out in celebration of Mom's birthday. I'm really looking forward to it and maybe I can snag more photos of the three of us. Who do you love shooting photos of?
I love wearing empire waist dresses. And no, it has nothing to do with my Pride and Prejudice fascination. *ahem* I simply like how they give shape without having to define a waistline and that's good if you're a bit curvy in the middle. I especially love the sleeves of this dress and the flowing skirt. Not to mention blue's my favorite (for today)!
When I was about eight I got a longing for a butterfly-sleeve shirt and I began saving money for it. It was something about looking like I had wings and the possibility of flying that appealed to me. I remember going to the doctor's office with my mom knowing we would go to the store after her appointment. I sat alone reading in the lobby for what seemed like days. When Mom finally emerged she asked if I would mind going on another day. I tried to act like it was no big deal but I was heartbroken. She must've seen it written all over my face because she quickly said she had some things to get anyways so we could go on. I was thrilled! At the store I searched through a pile of butterfly shirts until I found the one that had everything I wanted. I spent the evening waving my arms showing everyone how butterfly-like I was.
A few weeks ago while digging through my sister's stash of giveaway-to-sis pile, I squealed when I found a butterfly shirt with a BUTTERFLY on it! I'm probably too old to wear this sort of thing, but I don't care, I love it. It takes me back to that little girl who saved all her money for a shirt she wore as many days as Mom would allow and who always had an inkling it might give her the chance to fly.
Even though I'm working to slim down, I'm still a curvy girl. So I like finding outfits that help me appear put together and a bit more streamlined. I love this shirt because it has short-sleeves with a cowl neckline that draws attention to the face. The only downside is that adding jewelry makes it look overdone; so I'm accessory free. The belt gives a waistline illusion and the jean capris are a nice casual-but-not-slouchy twist to the outfit.
Haven't done an outfit post in a few weeks. I don't claim to be a fashion blogger, but posting what I wear applies the pressure I need to stay out of sloppy options. I didn't get a chance to wear this hat as much as I wanted during the winter season, so I've worn it few times this spring. These shoes are extra comfy and I think the gold detail provides a fun contrast.
Don't let the watering can fool you, I have a black thumb. Trying to be optimistic though, I'm planting some herbs. The plant that's stayed with me the longest is the artificial fern hanging on my front porch. Ha. A mama bird nests there now with her babies. I love watching them while I paint.
Wearing something OTHER than the Little Red Dress. As much as I loved learning from the experiment, I am beyond thrilled to be wearing jeans.
Polyvore. Have you found this treasure? A site with photos of clothes to mix and match in your own combinations. It's inspiring and addicting.
Going through my closet with tips from The No-Brainer Wardrobe. It's not a fashion book, but rather one that helps you discover your style and find a simple way to dress daily without resorting to frumpiness. I'll be sharing some of my combinations in future posts. Loved this book so much, I became an affiliate: Click here to visit Hayley Morgan @ The Tiny Twig.
A wall beside my favorite chair that I've devoted to art. It makes me happy to see so much color!
Getting better at keeping up with my routines, thanks to Flylady.
This week the Little Red Dress got it's first battle scar; a tiny rip at the corner of one pocket. I had to mend it best I could (I'm only slightly competent at that sort of thing). I couldn't help thinking how it's only been three weeks and I already have a tear. I've been washing my dress on delicate cycle and drying only lightly before hanging it up. I'm careful about what I do in the dress, which I suppose anyone would be if it was all they had.
I can't imagine a child wearing the same thing day after day, the wear and tear must be triple. But then, I suppose if you knew the value of your clothes, you would be more careful. Kind of like we teach children about carrying a glass or something breakable. They learn to be delicate. I've tried to be careful with the Little Red Dress, but when I think of it, it's probably not the I-won't-have-anything-else-to-wear-if-I-ruin-this careful. It's sobering when I think of that.
Lesson three: Having only one garment is a burden.
I guess I should've known that, but this dress has felt like Frodo's ring this week--heavy and burdensome. I lost some of my creativity because I just didn't have the heart for it. It's embarrassing to admit because it emphasizes how spoiled I am--that aspect of this experiment has been painfully evident. And each time I want to whine and complain, I feel this prick in my heart of how I still have a choice. Even now, I could give this dress away and have no worries about it. BUT, there are those who can't; and I'm beginning to understand I don't have a clue of what that's like.
